A Perspective of Sri Lankan Bus Conductors

Image
You judged already! Didn't you? If you thought that this blog post is a negative, complaining rant about the cussed behaviour of Sri Lankan bus conductors, you will find me irritating (or wise) at the end of this post. Sri Lankan bus conductors are often criticized for treating passengers as goods and not returning change, among many other 'bad' traits. Is it always true? Are we being judgy? Maybe we should put ourselves in the slippers of a bus conductor to step into the world of bus conducting. For me, being a bus conductor in the over-utilized transport sector is worse than a nightmare. Imagine spending most of the day in often-moving-slow-due-to-traffic? Being a tropical country, we get more than enough sun which peaks at the peak hours which is also the busiest hours for the bus conductors. An over-crowded Sri Lankan bus Let's look at the job description of a bus conductor: Loading passengers to the bus by calling out the destinations Conducting the ...

Boy-cott Sirasa News First

Image
DONT WATCH Sirasa News First has become a very unprofessional, biased channel. So ironical that they ask the viewer to decide what they report. Sirasa has already decided what viewers should decide. News is heavy with propaganda. Shameless media behaviour.   Only alternative at this point is Ada Derana.

Dr.Blah's mistreatment of Cancer patients

Venue : Navaloka Hospitals Colombo, Sri Lanka Time : 8.00 PM Date : 20th November 2012 Protagonists : Cancer patients and their family/friends Dr. Blawardna is not in his room. He had stormed out of his room angrily, as there was no nurse to attend his call. Group of cancer patients have flocked in front of the nurses' counter, demanding that they must meet the doctor or get refunded. Hospital policy arranges refunding the channeling charges, but there was no way to cover the traveling expenses of the patients. The hullabaloo is getting louder and has turned it self in to a picketing protest.  Dr. Blahrwadna is a reputed consultant doctor (assumed by the 25+ patients he had excluding the people who had already gone home) specialized in treating cancers. Is it really fair/justifiable to storm out of his room for such a silly cause? Usually when a doctor arrives he has to report to the nurses' counter so that they can allocate a nurse and make the dramatic announcement. ...

Thoughts in the Bus

Not only the old, the differently-abled, pregnant, women and clergy but everybody deserve a seat in a bus. Suffering and pain are experienced by everybody. I do feel guilty of having to make a choice! When you give money to a beggar, don't ask yourself whether the donation will encourage beggary, or whether the beggar is a genuine one or not, or whether the beggar is just being lazy, or whether the beggar will use money for drug abuse. If you want to give, Just give it without any conditions. The moment you "give" under such conditions, your self-centeredness defeats your kindness.

Kithulgala White Water Rafting

Kitulgala white water rafting is way much underrated. Yesterday (19th August 2012) during the first ever Leo Presidents camp of District 306 A2, I had the fantastic opportunity to experience the so called white water rafting, of which I had a faint idea. It was an experience filled with joy, mortal fear, thrill, competition, courage, team spirit. It will be an unforgettable experience for me.    What made it more thrilling was that we had to compete with five other rafting teams. We had to work together like one to make sure that our boat didn't turn upside down. There was an experienced guide who guided us with five basic rafting instructions; "forward", "backward", "release", "hold the rope", "fall back". Since we managed to stabilize out boat throughout the five kilometers, we scored full marks. But we were given the opportunity to experience what it is like to fallout in the fast flowing river. Although it was fun to se...
